Osteopathic & Massage Treatments in Cairns for:

headaches migraines

Headaches & Migraines

Headaches come in many shapes and forms.

There are primary headaches such as Tension headaches, Migraine headaches and Cluster headaches to name a few.

Headaches are quite often hard to pigeon hole as one specific type of headache, as quite often there can be combinations of causes which lead to atypical headaches.

This probably explains why there is no "one " treatment for all headaches.

Our practitioners recognize that headaches are often complicated in nature and therefore take a holistic approach towards their treatment

Strains happen when there is excessive stretching and or tearing of the muscle or connective tissue of the muscle (tendon) that attaches to the bone.

The resulting pain can be sharp and instant or may be of a delayed onset. The body is very good at protecting itself and often compensatory patterns will develop as a result of the injury that may lead to a reduction in functional healing and can also lead other areas of the body functioning abnormally and therefore progress to further injury elsewhere.

Our practitioners recognise this and therefore not only address the primary area of injury but also the secondary areas that set up in the body that can result in pain and abnormal function.

back pain

During pregnancy a great amount of change and development occurs to accommodate a growing foetus.
Postural changes & increase in weight are obvious, other changes may be more subtle like the effects of hormonal softening of ligaments & the position of the growing baby.

These changes can place excessive pressure on your joints and muscles of your spine and pelvis.
The most common complaints during pregnancy are:

Lower Back Pain,  Shortness of breath

Neck, shoulder and upper back pain

Insomnia, Sciatica, Swelling

High blood pressure, Fatigue

Gait issues, Plantar Fasciitis

Back Pain

Up to 80% of Australians will experience back pain at some point in their lives and up to 10% will experience significant disability as a result.

Back pain will also significantly impact the lives of those affected and can cause a serious reduction in the quality of life

Sprains occur when there is excessive stretching or tearing of the ligaments and soft tissue that supports out joints.

Often this ensures pain, swelling, instability, guarding and a breakdown of proprioceptive information to the brain that helps assist in coordinated muscular movement of that joint.

Our practitioners are not only committed to assisting the healing of the injury but also returning as much normal function to the structure as soon as possible.

In short, our aims is to get you back out there as soon as possible in the best shape as possible.

Osteopathic concepts emphasize the following principles:

The human person is a unit in which structure, function, mind, and spirit are mutually and reciprocally interdependent.

The body, through a complex system, tends to be self-regulatory and self-healing in the face of disease processes.

Adequate function of body systems depends upon the unimpeded circulatory mechanisms, nerve impulses, and neurotrophic influences. (In other words, structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.)

A rational treatment regimen is based on this philosophy and these principles.

Applications of Osteopathy

Osteopathy has several applications such as treating muscular contractions following periods of immobility and increasing quality and range of motion in joints after muscular strain. Osteopathic treatment is commonly sought for:

Back and Neck pain

Sciatica and Arthritis

Headaches and Jaw pain, particularly temporomandibular (TMJ) pain.

Postural and/or mobility problems with shoulders, knees and ankles, tendinitis and muscle strains

Work-related and repetitive strain injuries

Joint pain and sports-related injuries.
